LOCATION:
The Sandsteen Garden Cottages are located in the Village of Chrissiesmeer. When You enter Chrissiesmeer from Carolina,
the Sandsteen Garden Cottages are the first buildings on the left next to the tar road.
HISTORY:
In 1996 het die rustigheid van hierdie mooi dorpie ons so bekoor dat ons hier wou kom woon. Die pragtige meer,
die mistigheid, die voels en die oop hemelruim was baie spesiaal en die mense in die dorp was nog gawer as wat
ons verwag het. Die feit dat hier ‘n veldslag in die dorp gedurende die Anglo-Boereoorlog in 1901 plaasgevind het,
het dit net nog meer aanlokliker gemaak.
Marietjie and Johan Blignaut
live in this adorable old sandstone house. Mr. Piet van der Vyfer built the main house and it dates back to 1934.
It was previously used by the Dutch Reformed Church

as their vicarage. The
original window frames and wooden floors and trimmings are still intact and beautifully restored.

When the tourism industry
started in Chrissiesmeer in 1997 Marietjie started with her first cottage which used to be a granny flat. Soon
the next two cottages followed. The properties garage and horse stable have been converted into two lovely garden
cottages. These cottages were neatly thatched and are well equipped for self-catering. Each cottage has outside
braai facilities and fireplaces inside.

ACCOMMODATION:
Because of the Scottish history in the area Marietjie named them after the Scottish ancestors.

A. McCorcindale’s Cottage.
This cottage consists of an open plan living, dining, kitchen area.
In the living room are two extra single beds and provide generous seating arrangements. The Kitchen is equipped
for 4 persons and contains a stove, microwave, fridge and other electric cooking facilities. The main bedroom is
furnished with a double bed. The Cottage has a compact bathroom with shower.

B. Campbell’s Cottage:
This cottage was the original free standing garage. It contains an open Living, dining, kitchen and bedroom. The
cottage is fully equipped for three persons and contains a stove, microwave, fridge and other electrical cooking
facilities. The bathroom has a lovely old bathtub.

C. Hamilton’s Cottage:
The smallest of the three cottages, this used to be the horse stable. It is also an all in one cottage, equipped
for two persons. It is furnished with two single beds and the bathroom has a shower. The kitchen has a two-plate
stove, fridge, microwave and other cooking facilities.

ACTIVITIES:
Ervaar ‘n tikkie plaas atmosfeer in die dorp. Eendjies en hoenders word byna op elke groot erf aangehou. Selfs
‘n melkkoei of twee. Donkies en bokke is ook nie uitgesonderd nie !
Marietjie loves animals, and she always has stray animal or birds in her house.
When staying at the lovely Sandsteen Garden Cottages, you will be surprised about all the lovely things you will
experience in Chrissiesmeer. Marietjie and her fried Judy recently bought Jersey cows and started there own dairy
on the next door plot. They handle there cows all alone and you can participate in the daily milking activities,
as well as handling the little calves.
If that is not enough, Johan has got his own diesel plant on the property, he makes his own bio-diesel from old
sunflower oil, and produce a 1000 l a month to supply his own needs.
